His opponent was Demetrius Turner (2-2) fighting out of Wanderlei Silva's camp in Las Vegas NV. Casey totally dominated the entire fight, winning by referee stoppage in round 2. Using text book muay Thai Casey picked apart his opponent on his feet and on the ground controlled him and cut him up with sharp elbows. The fight was stopped after Demetrius took several unaswered elbows to the head and face while on the ground and against the cage. After the fight several people told Casey "I heard you had good muay Thai, but I didn't realize it was that good" Casey improves his pro record to 2-0. 3/22/2011 Our friend Roli Delgado fought in Bellator Fighting Championship 37 last weekend in Oklahoma. Roli has trained with Sommai for wins in the UFC, Friday Night Fights NYC, and now Bellator. Look for big things in 2011! Roli utilized good striking with his high level BJJ to secure a decision victory over a tough opponent with over 30 pro fights. Congrats Roli! Here is the official Bellator write up of the fight. Bellator 37 Roli Delgado fight 2/27/2011 FIGHT NEWS! Ben fought at the WKA tournament last weekend (2/19) He fought 3 times in one day. In his first fight of the day he secured a 3 round decision win. In his second fight of the day he won by referee stoppage (TKO) in the middle of the second round. In his third fight and after 6 hours of fighting and waiting around, Ben was dominating the fight when out of nowhere his opponent threw a HUGE left hook. With 5 seconds left in round 2, Ben ended up losing by KO. He did an awesome job fighting and just got caught. But we're all very proud of his proformance. Last night (2/26) Mike Stevens, Jeff Loken, and Casey Johnson all represented Sommai Muay Thai at teh Deep Shot Cages MMA show in Wake Forest. What an amazing night we had! In the second fight of the night was Mike "Boss" Stevens, showing why he's the Boss. In just 49 seconds of the first round Mike stopped his opponent with some vicious right hands to the face after securing the takedown. The fifth fight of the night saw Jeff Loken against Mario Poxton. Jeff was coming off a loss into this fight and Mario is a rising star in the sport as he was undefeated, winning all his fights by stoppage. Jeff totally dominated the first round with impressive stand up and brutal ground and pound. Shortly into the second round Jeff secured a standing guillotine making Mario tap. The main event of the night was Casey Johnson in his pro debut. Instead of having a walk out song, Casey had live rappers in the cage. There were 25 of Sommai's members there to help Casey walk to the cage and the energy was huge! After a few jabs and kicks from both fighters Casey was able to secure the "Joe Rogan" and doing exactly what we had worked on for the last month, pulled his opponent's head down and delivered a HUGE knee right on the sweet spot. He was out before he hit the ground. Casey was able to follow that knee up with 4 hard right hands befor the ref could get there. Casey won by KO in the first 30 seconds of round 1. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the fighters, everyone who trains with them everyday and pushes them when they want to rest. And thanks to Meredith Barthelemy for stepping up and being the timekeeper last night. 2/12/2011 Here is the address for Ben's next fight on 2/29/2011 The Hampton Convention Center 2/5/2011 Sommai Muay Thai Gym's S&C coach Chris Bright won 1st place in two seperate divisions at the IronBoy powerlifting met this weekend.
